The Stilettos Monologues is a modern, episodic play set on the fictional island of St. Iletto (Saint Ill-let-toe) where the stiletto stands as a metaphorical representation of womanhood in all its complexities. There, sixteen characters – women and female gendered shoes – tell dramatic and humorous stories on love, desire, identity, relationships, and female empowerment. Monologues integrate African American cultural expressions as characters reveal portions of their lives. From the first monologue, “Shoes” – a jazzy poetic celebration of shoes, each monologue takes a journey through personal or public conflicts amid revelations of power, scandal, infidelity and more, and culminates in the sorority inspired “Stilettos Divas”.
